Bengali Food worth trying while in Bengal

Bengal has a rich and distinct cuisine. Whoever has ruled Bengal in the past has influenced their food culture, be it the Nawabs who introduced a combination of subtle and fiery flavors in the food or the European influence that is evident by its snack food tradition that is liked in every Bengali household.

Bengalis are rightly called as Mache-Bhate-Bengali (Fish-Rice-Bengali) as they share an indispensable relationship with these two foods. Since, there are many states surrounding this state, freshwater fish like Rohu, Katla, and Pabda is very common and is loved by all. Hilsa (Ilish), is the most popular fish. Its unique taste and appeal have made it the King of Fish (Macher Raja Ilish). The right balance between the main ingredient and spices is what sets Bengali food apart from the rest of the cuisine. The right balance of spicy flavors can convert even the most basic dish into an extraordinary one.

Bengali food is so rich and diverse that even I am very excited to share more with you. Here are the top five Bengali recipes you cannot miss when visiting West Bengal.
